The German Parliament is considering whether to tax search engine companies that link to copyrighted material. Of course, under American common law, at least, everything that is not released in to the public domain by choice or passage of time is copyrighted. Whatever. The proposed law is nothing more than an attempt by old media companies to use the government to protect their businesses from the changing world around them.
