Forbes has released a ranking of the American states by overall business climate. The survey uses five metrics, including a "regulatory environment" rank and a "business costs" rank. Utah came in overall at #1, followed by Virginia, which posted a #1 ranking for its regulatory environment. Much-praised Texas is ranked #7, largely because of its strong "economic climate."
Forbes' selection for the state that is worst for business surprised me a bit, but perhaps it makes sense.
I'm surprised that Jersey wasn't lower than 36. Of course I noticed Forbes does not take foil wrapped packs of benjamins moving from your trunk to that of the chosen freeholder's lincoln into account when it does the ratings.
ReplyDeleteThe rumor around here is that it takes about a $ 100k under the table to get a liquor license transferred, versus NY where you just go in and apply. Could explain why we have so many crappy restaurants in NJ...
