Much more on crowdsourcing a ride

The war between local taxi regulators -- who generally work to protect the taxi companies -- and the various start-ups that propose to use mobile app technology to allow individuals to buy a ride from anybody, continues.

An adult should be able to pay another adult for a ride. Back in the day we called it hitchhiking, and when this country was yet intimate and cars were not so ubiquitous that is how many honest got around. Yes, there are risks. Being an adult requires that one assess and assume risk, presumably in return for a benefit. We should not ban a business that many would benefit from because the occasional adult will assume more risk than the return.
