The airlines ask for regulation, but why?

The airline industry is petitioning the government for a "comprehensive plan to insure the industry's financial health." Some of the requests, such as for lower and more modernized direct taxes, and less burdensome consumer protection regulation, are right in this blog's wheelhouse. But a "national airline policy"? What, to deal with ruinous competition? I smell crony entrenchment!
