Obama's jobs council at one year

Righty bloggers are making much of the news that President Obama's "jobs council," formed ahead of the 2012 election cycle, has not held an "official meeting," whatever that means, in more than a year. We have a couple of thoughts.

  • The membership of the council is chock full of Fortune 500 tools, most of whom use political connections to consolidate their leadership. Other members are union leaders, who we know are about protecting specific jobs, not increasing them in general (and there is a very big difference).
  • Does anybody think a "jobs council" can create jobs?
  • Does anybody believe that we would be better off if the "jobs council" had met in 2012?
  • We suppose, however, that there is good sense in exposing disingenuous political charades when we run across them. Probably a losing battle, but one must never give up the fight.
