Free the booze in Pennsylvania!

Pennsylvania, like a number of states, has socialized the sale of package goods. In the Keystone State, you have to buy your booze from the government. Republicans have been trying to privatize the liquor business, which would, among other things, keep Pennsylvanians from driving over the border to New Jersey to buy libations the government stores won't stock.

And to think people say Republicans are no fun.

Anyway, it will surprise nobody that the biggest opponent of private enterprise in the Pennsylvania liquor trade is a labor union. It bought off the Democrats, plus a few easily corrupted Republicans, and so Pennsylvanians will continue to get their booze from the same government that issues licenses to drive cars and own guns.

  1. Anyone who thinks governments should do more things should walk into a Pennsylvania liquor store after a visit to an office of the U.S. Postal Service.
